Winter in Florida? NOT! Technically, the Florida winter is officially over. Spring is here! Even though Florida doesn’t really have four seasons, spring is the most fun season for me. It gives me a reason to channel my inner Martha Stewart and make a new spring wreath or plant that veggie garden I have been threatening to tend for months. More importantly, this season gives me an excuse to freshen things up inside and out my home and bring in some new exciting colors for springtime. Here are five ways to freshen up your design for spring:
Bring in some color to your home by switching things up a bit. Remove that heavy duvet and opt instead for a light quilt with spring colors of Primrose Yellow, Greenery, or Blue Lapis (www.pantone.com), or maybe live dangerously, and use all three. The colors that are trending for spring scream “Life in the tropics”. They are vibrant and pair well with crisp cool whites or soft pale grays. Use the neutral colors as your base and layer in these vibrant colors in your plan with small accent furniture, rugs, drapes and soft accessories like throws and pillows. Make a big impact with natural textiles and wooden elements.
A fresh coat of PAINT is a great way to add life to your hallways and rooms. Does your home need a little curb appeal? Try painting the exterior front door a bright, bold color; add a touch of that same bright hue in an artistic way in the garden or patio, together the look will add personality to your design.
Do you have an old sofa with a beautiful line? You can give life and a new attitude to a natural and neutral slipcover. Recover with a beautiful fabric like an organic cotton or linen blend and then brighten it up with some bold color or funky print pillows. Create a tropical paradise in your own home to enjoy all spring and throughout the summertime.
Throw away those winter candles! Infuse aromatic candles or essential oils with spring scents. Place varying scents in different rooms so you notice the change as you move throughout the house. My favorite is a combination of lavender and grapefruit in a diffuser. Choose your favorite blend of calming scents to make your home a relaxing spring retreat.
